Note: The Open Water Checkout Dives are Sold Separately to accommodate both local checkouts and checkout dives abroad.
Why should I do my Checkout Dives in Ontario?
-
More Challenging Conditions - Because we have cooler water than many other dive destinations, you will be required to execute your newly acquired skills in a thicker wetsuit and sometimes with a hood and gloves. When you train in this more challenging environment, it will help you to become a more competent diver.
-
Completing your checkout dives locally also introduces you to the Welland Scuba Park with our crew. Learn to navigate the park and return as often as you wish to keep your skills fresh once you are a Certified Diver.
-
Destination resorts typically charge between $300-$500 USD for checkout dives.
Where: During the warmer months, usually May – October, you have the option of completing your check-out dives with us at the Welland Scuba Park. These dives are generally held on one weekend, when you will complete 2 dives on Saturday morning and 2 dives on Sunday morning, weather permitting. Please see the map for the Welland Scuba Park at this bottom of this page.
Checkout Dates for 2025:

I want to do my checkout dives on my family vacation:
For those who would prefer to complete their checkout dives in warmer waters, we will provide you with a Universal Referral Form signed by your Dive Academy Instructor. Present this document to the instructor at your destination shop as evidence that you have successfully completed the mandatory classroom and pool sessions of the SSI Open Water Diver Course. Payments for the checkout dives will be made at the destination dive shop.
